Animal Abuse

The street was dusty with trash floating along the roads. The rope tied tightly around its neck almost choking the poor animal. Trying to break free from the rope the dog yelps in pain as the rope tightens as he tries to jump back. He twists his head struggling to break free, he turns his head and chops down hard on the rope. The rope snaps, his neck is free. Out of breath, in pain the dog lays down on the hard pavement. An old, short woman burges out of the little house yelling. The dog attempts to avoid the punishment that is to come, but it is too late. A hard kick comes tumbling down to his side. Being flung at least a foot in the air that dog lands on his side. Winded, hurt and tired the dog stays put, scared to move. The woman walks back into the house not even checking if the dog was ok.

This is one of the many stories people around the world have probably witnessed animal abuse. In the U.S alone it is estimated that nearly 1 million animals a year are abused or killed due to domestic violence to their pets. This violence can be held within a person and taken out on their animals for no reason. Many of the people who abuse their animals don’t know that what they are doing is abusive and cruel to their pets. For example, people tend to leave their dogs alone outside in the yard with an open dog house and sometimes the dog house can get flooded with rain, or they put their dogs on really short chains that cut deep into their skin. Other way this kind of abuse can happen is if they don’t pay any attention to their pets. For example, they might forget to water their cat or leave them in the car on a hot day with the windows rolled up. These are one of the many kinds of ways this abuse can happen.

Some experts say that 70% of animal abusers also have records of other crimes, mainly violent. For example some serial killers have been know to abuse animals as young teens and kids, Albert DeSalvo also known as the Boston Strangler. He killed thirteen women, caged cats and dogs and shot arrows at them through a box. Jeffrey Dahmer stuck frogs, cats, and dogs heads on sticks. Dennis Rader, known as the BTK killer terrorized the people of Kansas, wrote about his childhood that he had hung a dog and a cat. They do this because they are psychopaths, which means they suffer from a chronic mental disorder with violent social behavior. That means that they don’t feel empathy like most humans and they act violently in most situations, so as a young kid they might not believe that it would hurt the animal or they liked to watch the animal in pain. These are very rare cases but they do pop up every now and then.

What some readers don’t realize is that these crimes happen all around the world. Most can even escalate to death. Some of the ways to prevent this abuse is if you are witnessing this happen in your neighborhood you can say something to the abusers if they don’t realize or you can call 911 and report the abuser. One of the most effective ways to help these animals is to arm yourself with as much knowledge about animal abuse as possible. You can find information to help with this in the Types Of Animal Cruelty on the Aid Animals website.

Animal Rights

Everyday shows on TV are exposing the terrible things that animals are going through, many dying. Shows about abuse, poaching and the list goes on. People are killing these animals for the stupidest things like “ Just the fins of a shark” Do you know what they do with the sharks? After they catch the shark they cut off all the fins the throw the rest of the body back in the cold, dark water, while the whole time this shark has been alive and suffering. “wanting fur from animals” In some places in china animals are taken for their fur. The worst part is that when their fur is removed the animals are still alive. Pain searing through their bodies as their own skin is cut from them. As for poachers, they kill endangered species or use illegal weapons. Some poachers just love killing animals, or want a trophy. Did you know that at least 50 animals are killed each day. All this pain all this suffering can you believe this is still happening out there?

Abuse, captured and killed. Animals who use to thrive in the wild are taken and put as pets, for show, traded, killed or for food. There are so many endangered animals all around the world like tigers, rhinos, leopards, whales and there are more and more of them on the list. Humans are the killer of these beautiful animals. Also animals are abused and hurt for ‘Not doing the right thing’. Who says what is right and what is wrong? One of the examples of an animal(pet) ‘doing something wrong’.

The street was dust with trash floating along the roads. Not really surprising, it was China. The only thing that stood out on the barren street was a dog. Tied to a pillar. The rope tied tightly around its neck almost choking the poor animal. Trying to break free from the rope. He yelps in pain as the rope tightens as he tries to jump back. He twists his head struggling to break free, he turns his head and chops down hard on the rope. The rope snaps, his neck is free. Out of breath, in pain the dog lays down on the hard pavement. An old chinese short woman burges out of the little house, yelling at the dog for all the noise it just made. The dog jumps up knowing what comes next, he attempts to avoid the punishment that is to come, but it is too late. A hard kick comes tumbling down to his side. Being flung at least a foot in the air that dog lands on his side. Winded, hurt and tired the dog stays put, scared to move. The woman walks back into the house not even checking if the dog was ok.

We should stop this abuse, pain, suffering. As a community we should strive to have a better and safer environment, not just for humans, but animal too.

A-Team

The group of 30 or so girls went silent on the field. Ms. Thomson knew it was late around 4:30 and everyone was eager to go home but even more eager to find out the touch teams . She held up the clipboard and anxious faces and started to spread through the girls.

“I know some of you are going to be disappointed in the teams but we need to speared the experience and skill throughout the teams.” This made the girls even more scared and anxious. She moved her eyes back down to the clipboard, a quick glance back up.
“B-Team..” And then she started to read out the names. Names would pop up here and there, as every name was said girls like lost puppies would stare down to their hands. As she read out more and more names, hoping not to hear their names, people started to fidget with their water bottles. There were twelve or so girls who were picked to be on the B- Team, some of them wen’t sad and some of them looked really shocked to be on the bottom.

“ Well with the B-Team done.... Now leaves the A-Team.” Everyone who was not called during the (scary other word) past two minutes, rejoiced inside. Ms. Thomson started to read out names again, but this time for the A-Team. As their names were said girls started to sit up taller and smiles showing their white shimmering teeth started to appear.
